Best Pan Mein in my hometown, Kota Kinabalu

As much as I love travelling, I also love food.
It's one of the 5 basic in Maslow Hierachy Pyramidwww.verywellmind.com/what-is-maslows-hierarchy-of-needs-4136760

Majority of the chinese in Sabah are the Hakka so it's not surprising that most chinese shop and food court in Kota Kinabalu  served Hakka cusine.
I would like to share my first food story in Kota Kinabalu, and it's the Lintas Pan Mian or previously known as Lido Pan Mian. The coffee shop was operated by Mr & Mrs Vung. Mr Vung was the first to start this business at a small stall in Lido about 25 years ago. That's why there are 2 signboard in the shop.  Mrs Vung had been working in other places before but due to family commitment, she resigned and joins her husband in operating the shop together. As numbers of customer increases, they decided to look for bigger shop to accommodate their customers. They have a daughter and son who followed their footstep to run the shop together.

Menu

This meal is 9.50 ringgit including ice tea

My favorite is fine noodle with slice lean pork, anchovies, fish paste strips and the famous "sayur manis" which are only grown in Sabah and Philippine. "sayur manis" in English translation is Sweet vegetable, but that doesn't mean it is sweet . The leaves of the vegetable are very thin, tender and easily digestible. And the stock for the soup are very delicious with full of flavour. Pan Mein noodle are made fresh on the spot before serving unlike noodle from market or factory. Because it's freshly made before serving, the noodle is soft and chewy.
I have tried other places for Pan Mein but I still feel this is still the best pan mein for me. It's an affordable and cheerful simple meal yet delicious

Owner Mrs Vanessa Vung and her son

Mr Foo giving a hand in serving customer

They open from 7am to 2pm : 5pm to 9pm.
Closes every Thursday

In August 2019,Vanessa and her dauger Amanda open another branch at Wisma Merdeka, 2nd floor food court corner, right in the heart of the KK city.

The stall opens from 9am -3pm.

Addition menu at this branch -  Minced Pork Porridge with century eggs😋

Red bean Rm 4
 Fuchok barley  Rm4
Amanda taking customers' orders and basically in charge of front line while her mother, Venessa incharge of the kitchen. Very well planned, managed family business. A secret to successful family business is when everyone works together as a team.💪💪

Extra seating outside next to the vegetarian stall

Quiet hours before lunch. Breakfast & Lunch are the busiest hour.

Mince pork porridge with century egg garnished with roasted peanuts and anchovies is worth trying for the price of Rm8. Will definitely come back for this dish.👍👍👍😋😋

Unfortunately due to covid 19 pandemic, many businesses were affected, not only in Malaysia but worldwide. Mrs Vung had to closed the branch at Wisma Merdeka in 2020 and concentrate only the main branch at Lintas.
